We start this year with encouragement to put the past behind us and begin the year committed to following Jesus. Repenting of the past allows us to move forward confident and at peace. Then we talk about why God doesn't tell us everything we want to know and how we can trust and patiently obey anyway.

The Israelites lost the first battle against Ai because of disobedience, but they rid themselves of that sin and God encouraged them to put it behind them and go into battle again. This time, they listened to God and followed His directions completely and He gave them victory. Then Joshua built an altar and offered sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving. After that, they had an assembly and Joshua told the Israelites that if they would obey the Lord in their new land they would be blessed and if they disobeyed Him, they would be cursed. Then he read all the curses and blessings to them. Obedience is important!
