Closed in on Both Sides
When Joab realized his army was under threat on both sides and they were trapped between two enemies, he divided the troops so they could meet their enemies head-on. Then, he encouraged his brother by saying, “Be of good courage and let us be strong for our people and for the cities of our God. And may the Lord do what is good in His sight.” He understood the threat and knew that they could be killed. But they couldn’t let that deter them from doing what needed to be done. They couldn’t act according to the outcome, because they did not know what that would be. God would do what He thought was right and they just needed to be strong and fight.
