00:00:01: Welcome to the Lifther Jesus podcast with Courtney Gilmore.

00:00:05: on this episode.

00:00:06: following God's Word This is first Kings thirteen.

00:00:17: Today we're gonna talk about two men that both failed to listen to and follow god.

00:00:25: The first one is the king who?

00:00:27: blatantly disregarded what God told him to do, and the other is The Prophet that came to warn Him.

00:00:34: And was deceived but still did not Do What God Told Him To Do.

00:00:38: Instead of listening to what God Himself said to him directly He trusted a man who told him That God Said Something instead Of What God Actually Told Him Himself.

00:00:51: So the king put his fear over faith and The prophet Put His faith in a man instead of God.

00:01:00: And so what we're gonna talk about today is their story, and then how can We make sure that?

00:01:06: We don't follow the same Sins that they did.

00:01:11: How can we make sure That we listen to what god tells us to do and that we actually Do it?

00:01:18: And so I'm going to start out by reminding you about what we talked about last week, how Jeroboam has become the king of the northern kingdom.

00:01:29: The Kingdom Of Israel has split into two separate kingdoms now...the north and south....and Jerobom is the King of the Northern Kingdom.

00:01:37: And he's afraid that if the people go back down to Jerusalem, to worship God like they're supposed to do.

00:01:45: That when they get to the south They'll just decide that they don't want to be split anymore...that they wanna be a united kingdom and that might kill him and say nevermind you are not king any more we will follow the King in the South.

00:02:00: So to guard against this He decides to make up his own entire worship system, completely disregarding God's worship system that is rooted in Jerusalem with the priests from the tribe of Levi.

00:02:17: And he says instead I'm going to make two separate worship places in the north, one of them in the far North and one of him in the Far South of The Northern Kingdom.

00:02:30: And then y'all can just go to whichever place is closest to your house...and you don't have to be a Levite if ...to be a priest he allowed other people from other tribes created a different time to celebrate at least one of the feasts, The Feast Of The Tabernacles.

00:02:54: He celebrated a month later than he was supposed to and so he's created this entirely different worship system.

00:03:02: We talked about how he did that last week, and this week we're going to talk what God thinks of it.

00:03:08: And obviously, God is not happy with this.

00:03:13: That's where we left off in chapter thirteen verse one.

00:03:31: and he cried out against the altar by the word of the Lord, And He said, Alter!

00:03:35: Alter!

00:03:36: This is what the Lord says.

00:03:39: Behold a son shall be born to The House Of David.

00:03:42: Josiah Is His Name...and on you He Shall Sacrifice The Priest Of The High Places Who Burned Incense On You....And Human Burns Shall Be Burned On

00:03:53: You.".

00:03:54: And then He gave A sign on the same day saying this that what I just said will actually happen.

00:04:04: Behold, the altar shall be torn to pieces and cursing the altar.

00:04:15: basically because The Altar is illegitimate and so are the priests that offer on it.

00:04:21: And, So he's telling the altar in front of the king who created It You Are Illegitimate!

00:04:29: There's going to come a King later On from David's lineage and his name will be Josiah.

00:04:36: He Will kill all Of the illegitimate Priests Burn Their Bones On This Altar.

00:04:44: And then he says, but providing that's gonna happen way in the future.

00:04:50: I want you to know what i'm saying is true And I can't prove that, That's going to happen because you know it is too far in the future.

00:04:59: So i'm going to prophesize something right now and then have it happened immediately so that You Can see that...I Know what im talking about!

00:05:09: If i say Somethings Going To Happen It Is even if its five hundred years In The Future or whatever..and he says This altar is going to be torn into pieces and all the ashes are going to fall on the ground.

00:05:23: And this would defile All of the worship system there because The altar has torn apart, and the ashes aren't supposed falling on the ground, they're being caught in a tray and then there's supposed to be pulled out and taken outside of the camp and poured out outside at the camp.

00:05:43: And so if they fall to the ground than the ground is desecrated.

00:05:56: Now, when the king heard this statement of The Man Of God which he had cried out against the altar in Bethel, Jeroboam stretched down his hand from the altar and told them—the soldiers to seize him.

00:06:08: But his hand, which he had stretched out towards them, dried up and couldn't drop back into himself.

00:06:15: And the altar was also torn to pieces as the ashes were poured on the ground in accordance with a sign that the man of God is given according to the word of the

00:06:25: Lord.".

00:06:27: The king responded when he said to him, Please appease the Lord your god and pray for me so my hand may be restored.

00:06:36: So the man of God appeased The Lord and the King's hand was restored to him, And it became as It Was Before.

00:06:45: When He stretched out His Hand To Arrest That Man Then It Locked Up!

00:06:52: and he couldn't move it.

00:06:53: And while he's standing there frozen, the sign that the prophet told him was going to happen happened right before his eyes.

00:07:02: so you know we wasn't able to get anybody to go and arrest him...and It's like everything kind of froze in time.

00:07:09: So God's prophecy could come true Right Before His Eyes!

00:07:16: When He saw what had happened.

00:07:20: Yeah, I guess you are a man of God.

00:07:22: Providing that would you please pray to god and ask him to restore the use?

00:07:33: And all of this is just because, you know that wasn't the punishment.

00:07:40: So God was trying to show him he IS God and has power.

00:07:46: so once his display had happened He restored use in His hand.

00:07:52: In verse seven it says The king said to man of god Come home with me and refresh yourself I'll give a gift.

00:08:01: And then the man of God said to the king, if you were to give me half your house I wouldn't go home with you.

00:08:07: Nor would i eat bread or drink water in this place?

00:08:11: for god commanded Me saying You shall not Eat Bread Or Drink Water nor return In The Same Way That You Came.

00:08:18: and so he went Home Another way.

00:08:22: So He's like Yeah, there's no way I'm staying here to eat with you.

00:08:26: You are a bad guy!

00:08:27: You're not doing the things your supposed do...I came here to deliver you a message and now i'm heading back.

00:08:33: Not gonna stay here.

00:08:34: act like im your buddy..not going to let you feel better about yourself because you've given me a present....i am NOT GOING TO LET YOU CONVENCE ME TO SOFT THAN ANYTHING BECAUSE YOU'RE GIVING ME A PRESENT.

00:08:45: NONE OF THAT.

00:08:46: I'M GOING HOME RIGHT?

00:08:49: You know, this makes a lot of sense that God would not want him to stay there for all those reasons.

00:08:55: and then he says go home A different way.

00:08:58: And you know This is something That you Know.

00:09:00: All security people will tell you if you are worried For your life?

00:09:05: You don't Go To work the same Way you come.

00:09:09: you know always Come Home a Different way than you went.

00:09:13: you Don't do Predictable Things.

00:09:15: you know where someone that Is watching you could know exactly what time you leave, exactly.

00:09:20: What time you get home and how the route that you go in things like

00:09:24: that.".

00:09:25: And so he's going into The Northern Land a land that is not his anymore...and He's telling them they're doing something wrong.

00:09:33: So he kind of has reason to watch us back..And God Is Telling Him Don't Stay There After You Deliver This Message.

00:09:40: I Want You To Get Out Of There & I Also Need You To Not Go The Same Way You Came!

00:09:46: And so, go home a different way.

00:09:49: So this guy says that's what I did.

00:09:51: Now by the way i do want to tell you That in second kings twenty three This prophecy that this prophet Declares about Josiah does come true.

00:10:03: and You know, it's a long ways in the future.

00:10:06: But what he tells them does actually happen.

00:10:10: and so then if you go into verse eleven It says now there was an old prophet living in Bethel And his sons came and they told him all of the deeds Which?

00:10:19: The man Of God had done In that day in Bethal the words That He Had Spoken to the king these also.

00:10:25: They reported To their father and Their Father Said to Them which Way Did He Go?

00:10:30: Now his sons had seen the way that man of God had gone and so he said to his son, saddle my donkey for me.

00:10:37: And they settled the donkey for him and he rode away on it.

00:10:40: He went after the Man Of God and found Him sitting under an oak.

00:10:44: He said to him are you a man of god who came from Judah?

00:10:48: The man said I am!

00:10:50: Then he said come home with Me and eat

00:10:51: bread.".

00:10:57: eat bread or drink water with you in this place.

00:11:01: For a command came to me from the word of the Lord, saying that you cannot eat bread and not return home in the same way I

00:11:08: came.".

00:11:09: Then he said to him,"I too am a prophet like

00:11:12: You!".

00:11:13: And an angel spoke to Me by the Word of the LORD!

00:11:16: He said, Bring Him back into your house so that ye may eat and

00:11:21: drink.".

00:11:22: But he lied.

00:11:26: the man went back with him and he ate bread at his house, and he drank water.

00:11:31: And so why did he lie to him?

00:11:34: Who knows you can make up your mind when you hear the whole story.

00:11:37: I kind of don't think that He was doing anything too purposefully hurt this guy.

00:11:43: but like i say You Can Make Up Your Own Mind.

00:11:45: Maybe he Was or maybe he just really wanted To talk to Him and he's Like well...he's not gonna come home With me if I Don't Lie to him and So he Lies to him.

00:11:55: Well This turns out to be a big problem because in verse twenty it says, now It came about as they were sitting down at the table that The word of the Lord came To the prophet who had brought him back and he cried Out to the man Of God Who'd come from Judah And He said this is what?

00:12:14: The Lord's telling me Because you have disobeyed.

00:12:18: The command of the lord and You haven't kept the Command which the Lord your god commanded you.

00:12:23: but you returned and ate bread, drank water in the place which I told you not to eat or drink.

00:12:30: Your dead body will NOT come into the grave of your

00:12:33: fathers.".

00:12:35: So... The guy that lied to him—that tricked them and got him to disobey God is now having to deliver the consequences of him disobeying God…which sounds horrible!

00:12:48: You know it's all his fault basically.

00:12:51: And yet you know, he's having to tell him like God is telling me that You didn't obey Him because I tricked you and now Because you didn't go home Like you were told to go home.

00:13:06: You'll never make it home.

00:13:07: That's basically what saying your dead body won't return To the grave of your father so you're not gonna Make it back home into Your own land And die in your own Land where?

00:13:22: so sad, right?

00:13:23: That he has to tell him that and it's all because of Him.

00:13:28: But then in verse twenty-three It says... And now when He had gone a lion met Him on the way And the lion also was standing beside the body.

00:13:53: And behold, men passed by and saw the body thrown on the road... ...and a lion's standing besides the body.

00:13:59: so they came and told everyone in this city where the Old Prophet had

00:14:03: lived.".

00:14:03: When The Prophet heard about it he said, This is man of God who disobeyed the command of the Lord.

00:14:12: therefore the Lord has given him to the Lion which has torn Him & killed Him in accordance with the word that He spoke.

00:14:21: So very interesting, right?

00:14:25: Of course they would go into town and tell this scene because not only has the lion killed him but he didn't eat them up.

00:14:35: And He didn't kill the donkey!

00:14:37: The donkeys didn't run away either.

00:14:39: They literally are both just standing there beside their dead body doing nothing.

00:14:46: That's pretty incredible scene, right?

00:14:49: And so even if you just passed by and saw a dead man on the road that had been killed by a line.

00:14:54: You'd tell everybody in town but If you saw A Dead Man laying On The Road with a lion and a donkey standing Right beside it doing absolutely nothing!

00:15:04: You would Tell Everybody What In The World Is Going On.

00:15:08: I mean, maybe the lion would kill the man without eating him.

00:15:12: That makes kind of sense but why would he stick around?

00:15:15: and Why doesn't it touch that donkey?

00:15:17: Why are they just standing there you know in perfect peace together Just looking at the man that He just killed?

00:15:24: You know this is absurd.

00:15:26: This shows to anybody that is reading this word, God just sent the lion to kill him.

00:15:32: It has absolutely nothing do with any kind of aggression on a lion's part or wanting to eat them or anything like that.

00:15:41: God just send the lion and killed it was his purpose.

00:15:44: now they are all standing around saying okay what should I do?

00:15:49: The old man knows you can see.

00:15:53: he says oh no It's the man of you know, The Man Of God.

00:15:57: God is punishing him and so he asks his son to settle his donkey again.

00:16:03: And He goes in search for the man and it says when...he found a body thrown on the road with the donkey & lion still standing there beside the body..and the lion hadn't eaten the body AND HE HADN'T HARMED THE DONKEY.

00:16:21: And I guess he doesn't harm the man either, or they just run away when the man gets up because it says.

00:16:26: then The Prophet picked up the body laid on the donkey and brought him back.

00:16:32: They came to a city where an old man lived and mourned and buried Him.

00:16:37: It said that He layed His Body in the Man's own grave—in the Old Prophet's grave—and they mourned over Him and called Him his

00:16:45: brother.".

00:16:46: And after they buried him, he looked at his sons and He said when I die.

00:16:50: I want you to bury me in this very same grave In which the man of God is buried.

00:16:55: lay my bones right beside His Because This thing will certainly come To pass what she cried out by The word of the Lord against the altar that Is in Bethel?

00:17:05: And it gets all the houses have the high places Which are in the cities of Samaria.

00:17:10: And so this is the reason that I don't think The prophet had any ill intent because he's so honoring to This guy and He obviously believes everything That he told him.

00:17:21: but maybe he just feels guilty now, you know.

00:17:23: Maybe he did have some ill intent But he didn't want him to die or anything.

00:17:27: So Now he's like...I feel horrible Because now that i've heard God's word To myself and seen all of what the man says come true Now I feel horrible.

00:17:40: and so, i've got to honor this man.

00:17:42: You know?

00:17:43: I tend to think that he probably just wanted the guy come his house because He want talk him about all of it Because he was curious you Know.

00:17:51: but either way...he's very honoring To this prophet And says..you know....I would like to be buried beside Him one day.

00:19:01: That is the lesson, that's what happened.

00:19:05: But we need to figure out how do not do what Jeroboam and the Prophet did because neither one of them truly listened to God told him to do it.

00:19:18: they definitely didn't follow.

00:19:20: you know whether they heard or not.

00:19:23: like I said before The Jerobohm blatantly disobeyed God and the prophet was deceived but He didn't check with God.

00:19:32: You know, he didn't say god are you telling this prophet to send me somewhere?

00:19:36: because that's not what you told Me.

00:19:38: What am I supposed to do?

00:19:39: He just like oh okay.

00:19:41: God told you that.

00:19:42: Okay i guess i'll trust That.

00:19:43: and so he was trusting what a man said that God said instead of what he knew himself that God had said.

00:19:51: And then um like I said before too, Jeroboam is so fearful of losing the kingdom that he lets that fear override his faith.

00:20:01: and then The Prophet has more faith in this man than He does in the true definitive word of God.

00:20:08: That He heard with His own ears.

00:20:11: or you know however it Is that God specifically told him to go there?

00:20:15: And So how do we guard against This?

00:20:17: How Do We Make Sure That We Follow God?

00:20:22: And I think the first way is we have to listen to him.

00:20:26: and how can we listen if We don't know what he's saying.

00:20:29: So, The First thing that we Have To do If we want to follow God Is Know What He Says!

00:20:37: The only way we can do it is if you know what he's telling us to do.

00:20:44: He isn't going to talk with us in the same way that he talked to Jeroboam and the prophets, but he does still talk today!

00:20:52: He has given his word—which is the Bible—and His Holy Spirit.

00:20:58: These are ways where he talks... And so if we want to hear what God has to say, If We wanna know What He's teaching.

00:21:05: What His commands are?

00:21:07: What his ways look like and what his character is then we have to pray and read the Bible.

00:21:14: So in John fourteen twenty six it says But the helper The Holy Spirit Whom the Father will send him my name he Will teach you all things.

00:21:28: And then in John, sixteen thirteen it says when he the spirit of truth has come He will guide you and all-truth for he will not speak of his own authority But whoever he hears Whatever.

00:21:40: He hears he will speak and he will tell You The things to Come?

00:21:44: and so the Holy Spirit is our Helper and He teaches us all of the things that we need to know, and he reminds us about all the things already known.

00:21:58: This verse is being spoken by Jesus in his telling them when He goes into heaven that the Holy Spirit will come and He's going to remind him everything that was told while with Him.

00:22:12: But the Holy Spirit can remind us of all things that we read in God's Word.

00:22:17: So if we will read it, then The Holy Spirit will recall It to our memory.

00:22:23: If We Will Read It He Will Teach Us What?

00:22:26: Its Saying he'll Help Us To Understand it.

00:22:29: it also Says In Verse Six in Chapter Sixteen That This Spirit is, you know, Fourteen said he was the helper.

00:22:38: The Sixteen says that it...he tells us the truth and then He guides us in That Truth And He Tells Us Things to Come.

00:22:47: So in fourteen he was telling us the things that we already know and in sixteen He's telling us, The Things That We Haven't Yet Found Out.

00:22:56: He is basically guiding Us to show What We Need To Do In The Future Even Though We May Not Know All Of The Story... ...He Is Going Give Us Enough Information That We Can Do What Is Pleasing To Him.

00:23:09: And so this is the role of the Holy Spirit This How He Talks To Us.

00:23:13: When He'S not Talking To US IN THE BIBLE The first thing that we need to do is know what God says.

00:23:21: But once we know what He says, We have to believe it and trust in It!

00:23:26: If we believe what God is telling us, and we trust that it's good in right and true.

00:23:33: if We trust his ways are best That all of the things In The Bible Are True And They're Important For Us To Know Then We Will Continue to Want To Know More?

00:23:43: And We will Commit To Follow Those Things!

00:23:55: our best interest at heart, we're not going to follow him.

00:23:58: But if we read the word I think will automatically believe those things because we'll see what we talked about last week his power...his love..His ability and all of His wisdom....and ALL OF THOSE THINGS!

00:24:14: And WE WILL WANT TO KNOW MORE AND WE WILL LOVE HIM AND WE Will want to FOLLOW HIM.

00:24:19: We'll trust Him.

00:24:22: Once we want to follow him, We have to commit to do it.

00:24:26: You know I believe that this is the right way and so i'm going To Follow It And not only am I Going to follow it but im going to follow exactly.

00:24:35: Im Not going to deviate from what This word of God Tells me to Do because thats where we get in trouble even if we Know Gods Word.

00:24:45: If were like oh its okay.

00:24:47: just a little bit different though And that's not right, you know?

00:24:50: We can't do that.

00:24:53: The Deuteronomy four two says we shall not add to the word and should...we shall not take away from it!

00:24:58: That we may keep the commandments of the Lord our

00:25:01: God.".

00:25:02: So we can't add anything to God's Word..We cant say oh I think this is what he means.

00:25:07: like thats' what the Pharisees did You Know they would Add TO What God said.

00:25:12: They Would Say You Know God Says That We Can't Work on the Sabbath.

00:25:17: So what constitutes this work?

00:25:19: Well, let's make up all these rules and say that if you walk any further than it takes to get the synagogue.

00:25:24: That normally gets church on Sunday...that would be for us!

00:25:29: If we walk any farther then your working until you can't walk any more than this distance in the Sabbath.

00:25:38: Things like that are adding too.

00:25:42: The Satan did this to Eve whenever he asked her, Did God really say?

00:25:48: You know.

00:25:48: Did god really say that you couldn't do this.

00:25:50: and then she says well I think thats what He said.

00:25:54: You know why I said that?

00:25:55: Because he doesn't want you to know good and evil, because this is the tree of the knowledge of Good & Evil.

00:26:01: He says... So God just said don't do it!

00:26:10: He didn't give her a good reason....I mean..He gave her the reason that its the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil And It's gonna be bad for you.

00:26:17: But Satan Is Adding To That.

00:26:20: so YOU CAN'T ADD TO IT and you can't take away from it.

00:26:22: You can't say, I don't really like that rule so i'm just going to kind of disregard that one.

00:26:28: or maybe that's not exactly what he means...I don't think i'm gonna mess with that part....or..i don't understand that one!

00:26:35: So i'm Just Going To Leave It Alone.

00:26:36: We Can't Do

00:26:37: That!!

00:26:37: We have to read his word we have to listen to What He

00:26:40: Says!!!

00:26:40: Think about if was a parent?

00:26:42: You Couldn'T Say, I Don't Understand Why They Don't Want Me To Do That!

00:26:45: I'M GONNA DO THAT!

00:26:46: THAT'S DUMB!

00:26:47: YOU KNOW?

00:26:47: CAN'T DO

00:26:48: THAT!!

00:26:51: Don't add to God's word, don't take away from it.

00:26:54: Joshua one eight says the book of law shall not depart from your mouth but you shall meditate on a day and night that you may observe according all is written in it for then will make your way prosperous have good success.

00:27:10: so next thing we need do Once we commit to following God's word, then we have to keep it fresh in our memory.

00:27:18: We have to meditate on it and think often so that he doesn't forget what it is He told us to do.

00:27:25: because this happens a lot when kids do too.

00:27:28: They're like oh I forgot.

00:27:29: you didn't tell me to do that.

00:27:30: It's like.

00:27:30: well if you would think about it maybe you wouldn't forget.

00:27:36: Think about it until you do it.

00:27:37: If I tell you not to do something, then whenever you think about doing it your first thought should be no mom told me NOT TO DO THAT!

00:27:44: You know?

00:27:45: And so THINK ON IT!

00:27:46: Remember what YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DO AND WHAT YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSE TO DO and then you'll follow the rules.

00:27:52: Psalm nineteen seven two eleven says... The statues of the Lord are right, rejoicing heart.

00:28:08: The commandment of the lord is pure enlightening eyes.

00:28:12: The fear of the LORD is clean and enduring forever.

00:28:16: The judgments of the lords are true and righteous all together.

00:28:21: More to be desired they than gold.

00:28:24: Yay!

00:28:25: Than much fine gold.

00:28:27: Sweeter also than honey in a honeycomb.

00:28:30: Moreover, by them your servant is warned and in keeping them you're reward will be great.

00:28:37: And so if God's law is perfect... If it converts the soul..If God words are sure....And they make you wise.....If all of things that he declares right and makes heart happy If his commands are innocent and pure, they bring enlighten you.

00:29:02: And if fearing God is also pure—if it's right and helps you stay safe... ...and if God's judgments are true and right then yeah we desire them!

00:29:17: Right?

00:29:18: We want to follow them.

00:29:20: Then will be in good shape.

00:29:21: if do we need to read the word and know these things about it so that will take us seriously.

00:29:30: So, then another thing that Jeroboam did wrong remember, is that he was more fearful of losing the kingdom than he was a disobeying God.

00:29:52: And so we have to make sure that we fear God more than we fear anything else you know?

00:29:59: That we remember.

00:30:01: there are consequences for disobeyeing the Lord and they're going be greater then any other threat that we might have...and So We need To Be More Afraid Of Disobeying god Than We Are Anything Else.

00:30:15: If we know that he has power and we know his ways are right then, We're going to believe them.

00:30:20: Right?

00:30:21: And...we ARE gonna be a little bit concerned!

00:30:24: Now this kind of fear is the same kind of Fear you have for loving good father That wants.

00:30:30: make sure You do things that are right.

00:30:33: Your not scared To Be in His Presence, your not shaken Every time you see your dad.

00:30:37: You just afraid Of disobeying him because if you do disobey Him Then you will be in trouble.

00:30:44: same exact thing with your Heavenly Father.

00:30:46: You're not afraid to be in His presence, you love Him.

00:30:50: He loves YOU.

00:30:51: he gives you these rules because HE loves you and you know that if you don't obey his rules...you are going to get in trouble!

00:30:59: And unlike your parent who may or may NOT always KNOW THAT YOU DID THE WRONG THING God's ALWAYS gonna know....and so we have be concerned, and that's what he is saying here.

00:31:11: Fear the Lord more than you fear anything else on this

00:31:14: earth.".

00:31:15: And so in Ecclesiastes twelve thirteen to fourteen it says... So God is going to Deal with you according to how?

00:31:38: You respond to him.

00:31:40: if you obey Him then.

00:31:42: You will be rewarded.

00:31:43: things Will go well for you doesn't mean that life will Be perfect, but you're not gonna have the consequences of That.

00:31:50: you would if you didn't do what your supposed to do and If you Do bad Things Then god Is Going To deal With you.

00:31:59: According to that Matthew Ten, twenty-eight says do not fear those who can kill the body but can't kill the soul.

00:32:09: But rather fear Him Who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

00:32:15: And then Hebrews ten thirty one Says it Is a fearful thing To fall into The hands of the living God.

00:32:23: so If you know God's got power and that he knows what your doing wrong, then it is a fearful thing to fall into his hands.

00:32:41: is that we need to guard against deception.

00:32:44: We need to make sure that we don't fall into the same trap as Jeroboam by placing our fear over our faith, and we need To Make Sure That We Don't Fall Into The Same Trap As The Prophet By Allowing Ourselves To Be Deceived Either By Our Own Selfish Desires Or By Someone Else.

00:33:04: And So We Have To Test All Of Our Thoughts And All of The Words That We Hear by the Word of God, which is the Bible.

00:33:13: Because that's the only true definitive word we know God has said!

00:33:21: And so sometimes we convince ourselves that our thoughts and our desires are from the Holy Spirit when they're really not From the holy spirit.

00:33:30: That's just what we want, you know?

00:33:32: So we twist God's words or We have this feeling in where like oh This feeling is for god and Sometimes it is!

00:33:43: Like I said God does use his spirit to speak To us.

00:33:47: It says that His spirit commends with Our spirit.

00:33:50: we know things.

00:33:52: So it's legit.

00:33:54: but, We have to test what we think were hearing from God by the word that he actually tells us in The Bible.

00:34:02: and so if anything That we think god is saying To Us or Anything that someone Else Is Saying That God Is Telling Them You know that God says.

00:34:14: if somebody comes to you and says, this is what the Word of God says then you have to check And see it.

00:34:21: That's really What The Word Of God Says?

00:34:25: If you think that that god Is telling you something either if you Think that the word of God Says Something or if you think That um god is Telling you something in your spirit Then you have to test it by the definitive, true Word of God because this is tangible.

00:34:43: You know?

00:34:43: The Bible is written down and we can see might be my spirit or it might be God's Spirit, you know.

00:34:55: And the person that is coming to tell me might be lying just like they were.

00:35:00: this prophet was.

00:35:01: but he also might just be mistaken.

00:35:03: He may believe that god is telling him...you know Jeroboam did same thing!

00:35:10: He knew that God had told him not to do this worship system, but maybe he convinced himself.

00:35:16: You know we do that too.

00:35:17: sometimes We're like oh these are gods laws?

00:35:20: He's like you're still worshipping god, you know That's what he told all the people here.

00:35:25: is your god that brought you out of Egypt?

00:35:27: Well no These golden cabs or not?

00:35:29: the gods that bought you out in Egypt?

00:35:30: But that's when it telling them.

00:35:32: and so they're believing That this is God that they're worshiping god when they do.

00:35:36: This because the king Is telling them?

00:35:39: That, this is where god wants them to worship and so we have To always test what other people are saying.

00:35:46: you know pastors fellow Christians if They're saying this is What god wants you to do You know either Either When they're counseling you And they're Saying well this is what i think you should Do or I don't Think god Would want you to Do this Or i think god would Want you to have to make sure that, you know... You ask them okay where does the Bible support?

00:36:08: That or are you go home and you check it out when you say Where is this?

00:36:13: Does the Bible Support what This Person Is Telling Me.

00:36:16: Or if a person is teaching something.. You Have To Make Sure That It's True!

00:36:22: That That'S Really What The Word Of God Says And Its Not What They're Saying.

00:36:27: That Gods Word Says.

00:36:32: You believe that God is saying something and then you read in the Bible, something completely contrary to that.

00:36:44: you know, tell us the way to go.

00:36:46: But there's also a ton of things in this world that God doesn't Tell Us In The Bible.

00:36:51: He Doesn't Say What Job To Take Or What Person To Marry Or Where To Move.

00:36:55: You Know Specific To One Person but what God Does Tell Us Is His Character and he Gives Us Certain Laws And Rules.

00:37:05: So If Anything That We're Hearing From Someone Else or we Believe Were Hearing from The Spirit And is contrary to something that God would do completely contrary to his character, then or contrary to His teachings.

00:37:22: Then we know that's not him talking to us.

00:37:24: and so when I say Contrary To His Character what i'm Talking About Is That Old You Know Thing They Used To Tell Us When I Was A Kid What Would Jesus Do?

00:37:34: Well You don't necessarily have to have a command To tell you what Jesus would do.

00:37:40: You know that Jesus wouldn't Do certain things even if you Don't have an explicit Command for or against That, you Know there's just certain Things that you're like I don't think you know.

00:37:52: Like maybe he Would Tell you?

00:37:54: Don't lie but Maybe in the Bible He's not going to say don't watch this specific TV show You know.

00:38:01: he says guard your eyes.

00:38:02: He says, um you know be careful about what you take in.

00:38:07: and so you use that and you say okay is this something I'm needing to pay attention too?

00:38:15: Is this something God would want me to guard against?

00:38:19: or is it something i can let you know, to my heart.

00:38:24: And so we use his word that says guard your heart, guard your eyes, guard what you bring in.

00:38:31: but then you have to say okay how do I know what that is?

00:38:35: and then the things God says are good or bad?

00:38:40: You start saying if Jesus was sitting here beside me would i watch this show?

00:38:46: it's like no Okay well He probably doesn't want me to watch this.

00:38:52: You know that kind of thing.

00:38:53: and so That's what I mean when I say no his character, you know What would he do?What Would he not Do.

00:39:01: um what would you do if he was standing there with you?

00:39:06: And then what is the explicitly told you?

00:39:09: you know If he's told you specifically Not-to-do something or if he tells you specifically that um these are the only exceptions to this or and otherwise you always do this unless this.

00:39:22: Or, You never do this...unless..this....you know there are exceptions in God's word but if this doesn't fit the exception ,you can't make one up!You can add two his

00:39:35: words!!

00:39:36: And If you read something that you don't like ...you I don't like that.

00:39:41: i'm just going to leave that aside.

00:39:42: or, really know if thats what he says and so im just gonna disregard it.

00:39:47: no!

00:39:48: If you dont'know if thats really whats the bible is saying then Thats when your use his spirit.

00:39:53: That's When You Go To Him And Say God What Do You Mean Here?

00:39:57: Or Is This Really What Your Talking About ?

00:40:01: Or Is this Really What You're Telling Me Like?

00:40:05: I don't, this doesn't feel right or i don't like this.

00:40:08: Or...I can't believe you would actually say that I need to do this!

00:40:12: Or..that I DON'T NEED TO DO THIS!

00:40:14: You know?

00:40:14: This seems right to me but.... Your word seems pretty clear or either it seems to be saying this and so I'm a little confused.

00:40:22: And, So that's when God spirit can guide us.

00:40:24: That's when god spirit teaches us...that's what god spirit reminds of things we've read Things that have happened..things We seen him do.

00:40:35: Thats when he guides us and shows the next step.

00:40:40: If you don't know what God is telling you, if you aren't sure in your spirit...if you are not sure of His Word.

00:40:47: You're not sure the word that other people tell you to go and ask Him so they can make sure that you hear the right things from God.

00:40:59: The first way we can test to make sure it's not being deceived Is GO TO THE WORLD!

00:41:04: And then if we cannot figure this out because things seem a little ambiguous, or they seem you know contradictory in some way.

00:41:14: They're never contradictory.

00:41:16: it's just that we don't understand them and so We just have to go to God at those times and say this is what I'm feeling.

00:41:25: This is what i'm thinking,this Is What I'm reading?This is what this person's telling me And I don't know what you're saying!And so I Don't want To hear Those other voices...I don't Want to Hear the Voices of The Other People..and I don'Want to hear the voice in my head even if it'S THE VOICE THAT I'M HEARING WHILE I'M READING THESE

00:41:41: WORDS!!

00:41:41: I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT VOICE IN MY HEAD IS YOUR VOICE AND NOT

00:41:46: MINE!!!

00:41:46: And So speak to Me Now & Tell ME WHAT'S GOING ON And then just listen to him and let Him guide you.

00:41:55: If your asking him, and truly seeking what he has to say He's not gonna let go completely astray.

00:42:03: That is telling us that if you're seeking him You are trying to figure everything out Then he will be like Sorry, you don't know sorry.

00:42:13: You don't understand.

00:42:14: tough for you.

00:42:15: He's gonna start guiding you and showing you And you can say to him God I think this is what you're telling me.

00:42:21: so i'm going To go in this direction but if i'm wrong stop Me put a roadblock there or I don't know if this is what you're telling me, so i'm going to start going and I need you to open these doors.

00:42:33: You know?

00:42:43: Because you're looking to him, he's guiding.

00:42:46: You.

00:42:47: but if we are just trusting that God is guiding us because We hear something from someone or we read it and think It Or whatever And don't go to Him and say Is this what your saying?

00:43:02: That's when we're kind of really just relying on ourselves or relying someone else.

00:43:07: We've got to go double-check what they are saying, and that God is saying us by his word... ...and then go to him in prayer and double check!

00:43:18: And so I'm going end reading you several verses.

00:43:23: The first one Psalm, one nineteen-one sixty.

00:43:26: that says the entirety of your word is truth and every One Of Your righteous judgments endures forever.

00:43:35: And so all of God's Word to us Is true.

00:43:38: we call The Bible God's word because it is his words To Us.

00:43:44: he has written these Words to us and So this is what he's saying to us, and so we need to listen to it.

00:43:52: Proverbs three five two six says trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding In All Your Ways.

00:44:00: acknowledge him And He Will Direct Your

00:44:02: Paths.".

00:44:03: What I was saying while ago Is if you don't go back To Him After You Think He Says Something Then you're leaning on your own understanding.

00:44:11: You know, if you are reading the Word and think it says something then you're leading in an un-understanding.

00:44:16: but If you think is say something that's not sure And you acknowledge God Let Him direct your paths.

00:44:22: He will show you the right way.

00:44:24: That was just a example of what this verse means.

00:44:30: Jeremiah's seventeen nine says the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.

00:44:35: who can know it?

00:44:37: And so that's why I said we may think.

00:44:40: It's this spirit But really, it's our own Heart deceiving us and so we can't be deceived by other people but We also cannot allow Our own hearts to deceive Us?

00:44:49: So you have to check it By The Word of God and we Have To go to Him in Prayer if the word Of God Does Not Clarify it for Us.

00:44:58: And then first John four one says, beloved do not believe every spirit but test the spirits whether they are of God because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

00:45:11: The way that we test the Spirits is by looking and seeing if what their telling us lines up with God's word.

00:45:19: If What They Say Is Completely Contrary to God's Word Then Their False Spirit They're Trying To Lead Us Away From Him And so we don't need to trust that.

00:45:29: Acts, seventeen eleven says these they're talking about a specific group of people are more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica In that they receive the word with all readiness and they search the scriptures daily To find out whether these things were so.

00:45:47: So They heard what the disciples were coming and telling them but they didn't just blindly trust.

00:45:55: They went home and they looked up what the disciples said to see if it was really true, To See If God's Word Lined Up With What The Disciples Were Telling Them.

00:46:06: And so that's what we need to do too.

00:46:07: If go church, We hear a pastor or Sunday school teacher Or if were talking with friends and they're claiming God is saying something You know?

00:46:16: That God teaches us Something in a certain way.

00:46:22: Or if friend says this I think you should Do then we have test it With the word of god Make sure It lines up The same things God Says.

00:46:33: And then we also have to make sure that we don't make up our own rules and say they're gods, like Jeroboam did.

00:46:41: So in Second Timothy two fifteen it says be diligent to present yourselves approved to God a worker who doesn't need to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth.

00:46:53: so separating god's words you know making sure piecing it out right, you know that we're really breaking It down and studying it.

00:47:06: And making sure this is what it says...and then I'm going to end with This!

00:47:11: This could be our memory verse for the whole um For The whole lesson..And i Could have read at very beginning.

00:47:18: You may wish That i had because it supports a lot of things That i've already been saying but also really wraps up in second Timothy three sixteen to seventeen.

00:47:29: All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and it is profitable for doctrine, for reproof ,for correction or instruction in righteousness.

00:47:39: that the man of god may be complete thoroughly equipped with every good work.

00:47:45: And so if The Word Of God If ALL Scripture Is Inspired By God And it's profitable for us, for doctrine and for reproofing.

00:47:58: For correction and instruction in righteousness Then if it enables all of the things that God wants to do then we need know what is says right?

00:48:10: We need trust it, believe it, fear disobeying it.

00:48:16: make sure follow whats being told.

00:48:21: we will be less likely to commit the same sins as Jeroboam and a prophet.

00:48:26: So that's all I have for today, i hope it has inspired you to listen to God.

00:48:34: talk him read his word hear what he says then follow.
